Getting started with UnitCare: your first property in 5 minutes
What you'll have at the end
- Your first property set up, with its own QR code and report link.
- Tenants able to report repairs with photos, without an app or login.
- Alerts on your phone the moment something is reported.
1. Create your account
Go to unitcare.app and press Start free. You only need an email address and a password. Free covers up to 5 properties, and you don't need a card.
We'll send you an email with a link to confirm your address. Click it. Until you do, we can't email your tenants on your behalf. They'll still see your updates on their tracking page.
2. Add your first property
Press Add a property and type the address, for example "Flat 2, 14 High Street". If you rent out rooms or units in one building, add each one separately so you know exactly where every report comes from.
3. Give your tenants the QR code or link
Open the property. You'll see two ways to give tenants access:
- Print the QR poster. It prints on plain white paper. Stick it somewhere tenants see every day: inside a kitchen cupboard door, by the boiler or next to the front door.
- Send the link to tenants. Share it by WhatsApp, text or email. This is quickest if you can't get to the property.
Doing both works best. See our tips for getting tenants to use it.
4. See what your tenants see
On the property page, press See what tenants see. You'll get the same simple form your tenants get: their name, contact details, what's wrong, how urgent it is and photos. Send yourself a test report so you know what to expect, then delete it.
5. Turn on alerts
Go to Account → Turn on alerts on this device so your phone buzzes as soon as a report arrives. You'll also get an email for every new report. On an iPhone you need to put UnitCare on your home screen first. Here's how.
6. Add your safety check dates
While you're there, add your gas safety certificate and EICR dates under Safety checks. UnitCare will remind you before they run out. How reminders work.
That's it
When a tenant reports something, it appears at the top of your dashboard. Emergencies are red, jobs you're working on are amber, and everything else is listed below. Next, read how to handle a report from start to finish.
